How to skate with PFM

Are you affiliated with a roller derby league (rollergirl, referee, coach, etc.)? If so, start here.

  1. Join our forum.

Introduce yourself to the PFM skaters and find our latest practice schedule.

  2. Tell us when you’ll be coming.

Email our coaches (Nate and PamOpticon) and our New Skater Contact (Terrie) at joinatpfmrollerderby.org to introduce yourself and let them know which practice you plan to attend. One of our coaches will assess your skating skills at your first practice (see General requirements below).

  3. Get skates and pads.

PFM generally doesn’t have equipment available to borrow, and the rink doesn’t rent us skates for practices, so you’ll need to have your own roller skates and protective gear. The following are required:

    • Quad roller skates
    • Knee pads
    • Elbow pads
    • Wrist guards
    • Helmet
    • Mouthguard

You can still come if you don’t have all of this equipment, but you may be asked to sit out during the heavier drills. Be sure to let our coaches know if you’re missing any equipment.

  4. Bring $10.

The drop-in skater fee is $10/practice, payable in cash at the beginning of practice; or $5 if you’re currently affiliated with a roller derby league (rollergirl, referee, etc.).

League skaters

  1. Contact your league liaison.

If you’re affiliated with Rat City (rollergirl, alumna/retired, coach, ref, etc.), contact PamOpticon to let her know when you’d like to skate with us.
If you’re affiliated with Jet City, contact Nate.
If you’re affiliated with another league, you can skip this step.

  2. Bring $5.

The drop-in fee for league-affiliated skaters is $5, payable in cash at the beginning of practice. Please note that at this time, speed skaters who aren’t roller derby affiliated (e.g. Team Lightning members) are not eligible for the “league skater” rate.

If you’re interested in coaching a PFM practice, please contact our coaches (coachesatpfmrollerderby.org).
